Thanks, Simon! I was in Alice Springs too (but not Uluru or King’s Canyon – Alice Springs was a day stop while I rode The Ghan train from Darwin to Adelaide).
I later did some work in outdoor education where I had a chance to meet some Aboriginal Aunties who were very cool, and had a lot to offer in terms of their knowledge of nature and the land.

I was fascinated by the Aboriginal people and their history during my visit to Australia, I spent some time in Alice Springs, and then obviously onto Uluru and Kings Canyon. This really explains and emphasises their struggle to get recognition in ‘their’ country!

As with so many aboriginal cultures around the world, they’ve gotten a “bum deal” to be sure!

They are not treating well in Australia.

I’m glad you enjoyed the story. I also enjoy being brutally honest with both myself and my readers – I think it creates a deeper connection and reading experience. After all – we are all only human…

I have long been aware of the plight of Australia’s indigenous people, but somehow, reading this, it feels a little more real. I also appreciated the blatant honesty and humanness you exhibited in your initial perception of Sheralee, as well as the recognition that thoughts like those have fueled hundreds of years of oppression, and worse. Thank you for sharing.
