Hey Tom,
Missing our Floridian adventures together! That was a fun trip.
And hey – crankiness is totally allowed!…there’s always a lesson contained in each flavour of cranky. Even the most enlightened people I know have their moments. 😉

I love the concept (and the reality) of a “travel state of mind.” As you suggest, so many possibilities, and even worlds, open up by saying yes.

I can still get cranky when I’m traveling, but it’s a better flavor of cranky, and seeing new people and places usually drains the cranky away.

Good travels to you, Tom

Hi Erica,
I agree – learning to be tolerant to other ways of being and thinking is a great benefit of travel.
And thanks for the compliment on my hair! That’s an old picture (and an old style), but I’ve more than once been pinned as a “30’s girl”. 🙂

Your topic is so close to me. I like your hairdress. You remind me the young pretty lady from the thirties who breaks stereotypes. 🙂

It’s life. I do think travel is a great way to experience this and then you can build on that and start to see it everywhere you are.

Thank you so much, Penny! I’m glad this resonated with you and the timing was right. I have another friend who read the article (offline) and said it was not just about travel, but a reflection of life itself.

I love this article. It is something I have been thinking about a lot lately. My most fun and memorable experiences and encounters happen not matter where I am as long as I am open to the possibility. I too used to think like your Canadian friend. I live in Dallas, not a particularly beautiful place, though there are beautiful areas to be sure. I used to complain all the time that I just can’t have the same experiences I have when I’m traveling. But over the past couple of years I’ve realized it’s all about me and my state of mind, not where I am. Now when I’m feeling stuck and dull, I call up those moments when something wonderful happened unexpectedly and I remind myself, stay there in that energy. Something wonderful will happen. Thanks for this reminder at just the right time,,,, a new year ahead. Full of opportunities for magical moments.

I’m glad you agree! It’s an amazing state of mind to meet new and engaging people, wherever you are.
