Hi Marco,
Thanks for the update about the air quality in Ubud! I had been wondering. Scary stuff! Take care of yourself.
As for the accommodation – you’re right; the airlines aren’t responsible. But when all this began (and when I evacuated), the Tourism Department of Bali was adamant that they would reroute grounded passengers and provide accommodation where necessary, so as to reassure tourists that it would still be okay to come to Bali. I just hope they keep their word.

I don’t think airline are liable for disrupted flights due to natural cause. I believe you have to pay for your accommodation until they can get you out of Bali. Of course airline should help you in booking hotels but, at this time, they are probably overwhelmed with request and figuring out as they go. It all depends from the winds, as of today it is as static as it can be and air is thick also in Ubud. not good! masks is a must!

Hey Kathryn,
yes…so I hear! It has erupted twice in the last week, and has been getting worse. Flights have been grounded (although from what I understand it’s been off and on). I wonder if they’re providing accommodation and/or rerouting passengers by ferry to other airports like they promised??? All I heard was that they have done their best to make people comfortable at the airport. Hmm…

Oh, and I truly miss you and the rest of my “crew” in Ubud as well! In fact, with increased time and distance from Bali, my desire to return gets stronger. If only this bloody volcano would decide what to do and just do it…. 😉
