Hi Izy,
Indeed….it makes things a lot easier in many ways, especially when both people work similar careers.

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for the comment! Very cool that you are house sitting your way around the world. We do that a lot too. Feel free to email Stephen if you have any questions about what he does. It takes a LOT of work to get the whole ball rolling but continues to get easier the longer we do it.

Jane

Same as Nora, we lost our Canadian health care and get International Medical Insurance. It’s expensive and we’ve never had to use it so far (knocking wood right now!) but it’s worth it should the unthinkable happen.

My partner and I are full time nomads, house sitting our way parking the world. I’m studying to be a yoga teacher too so am very interested in Stephen’s journey as think I would eventually like to run workshops & retreats rather than teaching regular classes. Looking forward to following your journey.

Hey Tiffany,
Interesting about Borneo! I’m in Asia at the moment, and might just be in the general neighbourhood for some time to come. I’m going to file that little gem of info away for future reference. 😉

Great article and yet another example of it’s possible to carve out a travel lifestyle. The work and travel balance to avoid burn out is a constant challenge! I wanted to let you know that depending on what your vision and definition of budget it, we spent two months this past year in Borneo, Malaysia and it was absolutely amazing! It was so much easier to get around do things than I would have ever thought. You can look at our budget if you would like, but we spent ~$1600 for one month and that was doing a lot of activities, including taking a small plane into reach a remote park. Anyway, just wanted to share that with you. 🙂 Thanks for the great story! http://vagabondway.net/july-budget-borneo-malaysia/

Hi Kimberley,
Wow – thank you so much for your kind words and for following me all this time! And congrats on your own leap of faith into a new life of travel! Woot!
I hope the insurance info is useful, and indeed – the cost of medical care (and at times the quality as well) is often better abroad. Kinda sad, huh? 🙁
(But then again, kinda good for us if we’re not in Canada any more – Ha ha)!

I’ve been following you for almost 2 years and you have been such an inspiration to me! You, Sherry Ott and Travels with Kevin & Ruth ( I know them personally) have given me the courage to take last year off and hit the road. I did some house sitting and work-away stuff, met the man of my dreams and we both decided to make this our life style.

I have always wondered what you did for health care being Canadian and never being in Canada. I will check out your info. Thanks so much.

When I was house sitting in Mexico last winter for 3 months, I had to take advantage of their health care for a Dr’s appointment and an ultrasound and I was shocked at how inexpensive it was…($35 Canadian for the Ultrasound AND…..I got the radiologist’s report a few hours later)….AMAZING… and such a different experience then the usual Canadian experience :0(

I also visited the dentist and….. AGAIN was amazed…I thought I needed a night guard but the dentist said I did NOT and wondered who ever told me I needed one. Of course my dentist in Canada fitted me with a night guard many years ago that I never really needed. The appointment included….a cleaning, 4 teeth bonded on the gum line and a bit of grinding to help with my bite and NO night guard….all this cost the equivalent of $220 Canadian….all of this would have been almost $2000 in Canada :0(

I know you are struggling right now and your honesty about your situation is the reason I keep following you! I hope you know what an inspiration you are to so many women. Keep on trucking girl :0)
