Although we are divers, we actually snorkeled with the whale sharks. Because they filter feed on or near the surface snorkeling was the way to go. For the whale sharks we went with http://www.ningalooblue.com.au (which,also, fyi- although we didn’t have our diver certification at the time, the Navy Pier is supposed to be an outstanding dive site if you also want to do a dive trip). It was early June when we swam as their migration starts to slow down after that in Western Australia. Although Coral Bay is another site (further South) to leave from to swim with whale sharks, we preferred basing out of Exmouth area. Having the National Park right there made a huge difference to us. We did have a lot of whales swim by us in the boat. Hope you get to go!

Surprising to many people, full time travel is so busy! I was always so tired at the end of the day. Some of my best nights sleep ever were in the back of that van.
