Hi Nora. I know this post is a few years old now, but I’ve just read through your journey from Sydney to Perth and I just want to thank you for being so thorough!

I’m researching this trip myself at the moment, trying to decide if it is worth the cost, and your posts were tremendously helpful. I still haven’t made my decision but there is so much information here that I wasn’t able to find even on the train’s official website. So thank you. 🙂

@Joost – If you have to get somewhere in a hurry (or on a budget), then there’s no arguing that flying is the way to go. But you just miss so much! Here’s my rant about train vs plane travel:

@Nora: Flying is for folks who loves cramped tourist class seats or paying too much for business class between Perth, Adelaide and Sydney in the ultrafast lane, for those people I recommend Qantas. For higher quality travel the IP and their predecessors are the only choice of travel. Forget flying, for professional hobos such as you trains are the only choice of travel. With interesting I read your blog about the IP

@Tijmen – Amanda and I were hoping to make it to Rottnest Island, but the the timing just didn’t seem to work out. It’s on my list of things to do…next time! Glad you had a good time on the IP. What an adventure it is!

Even though I didn’t have bed and didn’t sleep that much. I still had a great time as well on the Indian Pacific, met lots of nice people there. And Perth is great city to visit as well!. If you visit again, you should have a look at Rottnest Island.
