Hi Karyn,
Brilliant! If you can manage it, I’d totally do this trip if I were you! It’s amazing.

I know this post is a few years old now, but I’ve just read through your journey from Sydney to Perth and I just want to thank you for being so thorough!

I’m researching this trip myself at the moment, trying to decide if it is worth the cost, and your posts were tremendously helpful. I still haven’t made my decision but there is so much information here that I wasn’t able to find even on the train’s official website. So thank you. 🙂

@Joost – If you have to get somewhere in a hurry (or on a budget), then there’s no arguing that flying is the way to go. But you just miss so much! Here’s my rant about train vs plane travel:

@Yoichi – Thanks! Keep traveling and adventuring…

This is what I really want to experience.
Different culture, different scenery, thrill for an adventure!

Your blog motivates me to keep working harder for a greater reward to travel abroad.

For higher quality travel the IP and their predecessors are the only choice of travel. Forget flying, for professional hobos such as you trains are the only choice of travel. With interesting I read your blog about the IP

It’s on my list of things to do…next time! Glad you had a good time on the IP. What an adventure it is!

I still had a great time as well on the Indian Pacific, met lots of nice people there. And Perth is great city to visit as well!. If you visit again, you should have a look at Rottnest Island.
