Uh, no imagination needed here, as I’ve been dodging amid said Saigon traffic chaos now for several days. Yup, and I’m amazed that I’m still alive to peck here! It’s totally all true, and yes the operative word to staying alive here is indeed “predictable”. That and…

I’ve learned some tricks: don’t cross at the corners (unless there’s traffic lights), better to cross mid-block to avoid the herd that’s turning the corner. Likewise handy to shadow a local or three as you cross (i.e. there’s safety in numbers and the locals know best.)

And though this will be my home (leastwise for the next month), the answer is “Nope” No way am I tempted to ever take the wheel myself here. Shoot, I still need to squeeze my eyes shut when I hop on a scooter taxi!
