Hi Shane,
I’m so glad you discovered my site! I also took the VIA Canadian (from Toronto to Edmonton, Jasper to Prince Rupert, and Vancouver back to Edmonton) many years ago. EPIC.
I hope you enjoy your upcoming Amtrak adventures!

I thoroughly enjoyed your writing style and it was pleasure to read. I’m also from Canada and have traveled on the VIA Canadian. My next trip will start this September for 32 days on Amtrak taking me on 12 different trains as I travel across the country. Like yourself the train is the destination. Thank you for sharing your adventures.

Hey Anne!
I loved my Aussie train adventures. And I got quite chummy with the staff on those trains. Even got invited to a party by one of them while I was in Adelaide, where I met a bunch of other staff….who I ran into on subsequent train trips!

I love train travel, trading flights for trains in the past. I agree that railway employees generally seem to love their jobs. At least that was the case on my last train trip on the Railbed from Brisbane to Cairns. Staff were a hoot setting up and taking down beds in the Railbed carriage. Their relaxed and accommodating attitude was infectious.
