Hi Ian,
What a fantastic comment – thank you for sharing your experience!
Indeed, the biggest challenge to using an eSIM is the 2-factor authentication. There are two potential ways around it:
A) Some phone plans allow for “wifi calling and texting” which means you can still get your authentication texts/calls if you are on a WiFi connection, with your roaming turned off.
B) You could forward your home phone number calls and texts to your eSIM number.
C) If you can’t forward to the eSIM number (eg: the French number) because it’s long-distance, then you can forward them to a local online number, that you can get from services like Skype or Hushed or Tossable Digits, which for a small fee, give you a phone number that can be used over WiFi and Data.

Hope this helps!

Comment on Finding the Best eSIM for International Travel: Your Ultimate Guide by Ian Wilson https://www.theprofessionalhobo.com/finding-the-best-esim-for-international-travel-your-ultimate-guide/#comment-1126286 Tue, 11 Jun 2024 11:50:13 +0000 https://www.theprofessionalhobo.com/?p=18033#comment-1126286 Hello, I just came to this discussion via Xero shoes. I live in Canada and recently made a trip to the UK; I purchased an Esim from Orange for this trip, this gave me a phone number and data. This is what I found:
– It worked but I had to manually select the right data gateway on my phone
– I had way more data than I needed (Whatsapp uses very little)
– I was provided with a French phone number and I found that modern phones know how to dial correctly if your contacts are stored correctly in the “+” format. The phone had no trouble correctly calling a Canadian number from the UK with a phone that had a French phone number.
– I was caught out by one thing. I have 2 factor authentication set up on bank accounts and other things. This works by sending a text message to the number that they have on file. My normal phone number was not active while I was away (company does not offer international roaming) so I was unable to log in to some services that I use.
-One thing that I worried about but did not end up being a problem was if Whatsapp would want to re-verify my account using my normal phone number. I don’t know if this ever happens in practice

Woven leather slip-on are also a great option for men as they can fit that sweet spot between not too causal, yet functional, keep feet clean or less rocks to deal with, can wear them on sand, easy to get on/off and breathable leather. Sure they can get wet though avoid this often. Sure can hike some thou avoid lots, likely like jogging in them;) They have limits. Thou depending on what planning to do might be your thing. If lite/not bulky than two pairs might take traveling of course wearing one.
I like mephisto sandals! Wayyy better than birks!!!! I can walk all day in them they look good in dressy or sporty. I got them wet lots in Spain/Portugal, in fact glad had them for that reason and were fine on cobble sidewalks.
They’re tad heavy so looking at what they offered yet in lighter.
I can’t do flip flops or thongs or crocs.
+ Debating slip-ons or trainers with lightweight sandals for Thailand in March….see what itinerary plans make before deciding
Thanks ✌🏽This guy likes reading to learn from others regards of their gender or what their feet look like 😉😆🤪✌🏽❤️🍀

I was already living in BCN with a different agency and wanted to move to a new neighborhood. I found an apartment with Homelike. They refused to let me inspect the apartment for existing damage or problems before i paid the security deposit (although i had already paid the first month’s rent); they wanted an upload of my passport a week before my move-in date (never heard of that before–what an opportunity for an identity theft!); and they would not agree to having their mandatory cleaning service use organic products that i proposed to pay for. Since they would not agree to my requests, they deemed me a “no-show” several days before my actual move-in date and then said that it was i who had cancelled and they kept my first month’s rent as a cancellation fee. YMMV.

It seems like this is the case, but just to confirm – is using a Wise bank account the way you suggested in this article a better & more affordable option than just using Wise to transfer between international bank accounts?

Hi K,
Fantastic tip for one bag travel! I have run into this exact challenge; traveling with one bag that had to be checked. Luckily I had my packable backpack and I took out the things I needed to carry on the plane with me. I didn’t have it all pre-packed though.

Hey Dan,
I haven’t tried it yet, but I think it looks really cool! I like how useful it becomes at your destination to hold stuff if the closets/drawers leave something to be desired.
Have you tried it?
