I agree – merino as a bottom layer is amazing in cold weather! I’ve taken up skiing, and I regularly end up sweating under all my layers. That would be a disaster with cotton which would make me cold! Merino still keeps me warm.

An absolute life saver – absorbs the sweat so I pretty much never feel cold due to being sweaty while moving 😀

Wool is where it’s at! I’m starting to convert my socks to merino wool as well.

I switched to wool blend socks, including Smart Wool, several years ago. Most of my older supply of cotton socks languish in a drawer, used only when I think I need a specific color design. Wool socks cured my chronic foot fungus problem.

2. I come from a midwestern U.S. farm family. According to my father, his grandfather wore a wool union suit every day-winter and summer. I can only guess that he wore a variety of weights according to the seasons. It is a practice lost on more recent generations.

But, yes, I did not know that it is good for the environment as well.
