Turner,
EXACTLY! Most people don’t take the train to get anywhere quickly or inexpensively. Which means most people on trains tend to have interesting stories.
And there’s something about eating food together that encourages creative conversation and brings people together.

Hey Rob,
I haven’t ridden the California Zephyr (it’s one of a few remaining routes I haven’t yet experienced), but it is commonly recognized as the most scenic route in all of the United States.
So….hopefully “someday” will be sooner than later for you to do it!

I’m looking forward to this series. I’ve never taken a train trip but I have thought about it… Many years ago I was in the Sierra mountains east of Sacramento Calif hiking along a stream and saw the Amtrak train chugging along the upper canyon sides & realized that you’d see the country that way like no other way. That was the California Zephyr on it’s way to Chicago, someday I told myself…
Enjoy the trip Nora!
