Thanks so much for this article – just wanted to say how helpful it was! It seems like this is the case, but just to confirm – is using a Wise bank account the way you suggested in this article a better & more affordable option than just using Wise to transfer between international bank accounts?

I wish that were wholly true, but sadly, PayPal charges way more fees, especially if you plan to run a business with it and/or send/receive international payments involving currency conversion. Many of these fees are invisible so you wouldn't see them itemized on a statement.

With Paypal you can decide how much you want to receive in CAD. Let the sender pay the conversion and other fees.

Sounds interesting. Unfortunately, does not look like they support Peruvian Nuevo Sol (PEN).

This was an eye-opener! I hadn’t realized the significant difference in fees between Wise and PayPal until reading your post. Your savings are impressive. I’m definitely going to reconsider my banking choices now.

Thank you so much for this blog! I used to use Wise but kind of forgot about it since I didn’t have any foreign clients. Well, I recently did a test job for a foreign currency client and man, the PayPal fees were so high to receive my payment! I’m going to try Wise in the future.
