I'd never considered the possibility that anywhere in Europe could tick all the boxes of affordability and temperate weather. Until I visited Greece.\r\n\r\nI spent six glorious weeks in Greece between January and March 2020. A wee bit of time in Athens, followed by a week in Santorini (where I was appalled at the total and utter lack of drinking water or even the ability to filter it - read about my zero waste kit<\/a> to understand why this hurt so much).\r\n\r\nThen, I arrived to Chania, Crete, where I stayed for a month and absolutely fell in love. I loved the island, the culture, the landscapes, the weather, and - dear lord, the food<\/em>. I had previously been fairly dubious about Greek food, but Crete fixed that for me. I had such a wonderful time in Chania that I have fantasies about making it an annual winter refuge.\r\n\r\nMy second full month in Greece was supposed to be in a small town about two hours from Athens by train, however that visit was cut short due to COVID-19.\r\n\r\nThus, I have unfinished business with Greece.
