My first trip there was to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theprofessionalhobo.com\/a-week-in-the-life-of-the-professional-hobo-shooting-a-tv-show\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">film a television show<\/a>, where I met a woman in Rotorua who offered up some genuine Kiwi hospitality, which I immediately took her up on, as well as visiting with other friends near Auckland.\r\nI later\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theprofessionalhobo.com\/the-creative-guide-to-free-or-cheap-accommodation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">volunteered\u00a0in trade for free accommodation<\/a>\u00a0at a beautiful retreat centre that I returned to many times over the next couple of years.
