  <\/span>Yep, that’s me – doing the world’s highest (commercial) skydive in New Zealand. Skydiving wasn’t exactly on my bucket list (with 300 under my belt), but filming a tv show in New Zealand certainly was!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In reflecting on some of my life and travel experiences in the aftermath of my accident<\/a> and wondering what’s next, I’ve realized I have quite an arsenal of experiences already.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’ve written about reverse bucket lists<\/a> yet shamefully, never committed to such an exercise myself \u2013 especially given my revelations in doing other similar<\/a> exercises<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The other night while lying in bed, I found myself constructing a different kind of bucket list \u2013 one that reflects back on what I’ve done, reaches to the future, and includes ongoing items I haven’t yet ticked off to my satisfaction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I lay there flooded with images and memories; reflecting on what I’ve done in turn fuelled my list of unchecked bucket list items, and even experiences I’ve touched on but want to explore more thoroughly. It was a no-holds-barred journey into anything and everything that excites me, with no rules and a very rewarding recap.<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I encourage you to try it for yourself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here’s what I came up with (if you’re interested).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Done<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Here are some random achievements from bucket lists gone by \u2013 \u201cthe arsenal\u201d as it were:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Skydiving<\/strong> (I did it 300 or so times just to make sure it got done)<\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bungee jumping<\/strong> (I did it in 5 locations spanning 3 countries, including the world’s highest in South Africa)<\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ride a motorcycle<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Conquer a cave<\/strong> (I managed two \u2013 one in NZ<\/a> and one in Canada<\/a>)<\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Live on a boat<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Climb the Great Wall of China<\/strong> (I managed that one twice<\/a>)<\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Live on a tropical island<\/strong> (done<\/a>, done<\/a>, done<\/a>, and done<\/a>)<\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n

White Water Rafting<\/strong> (I managed the world’s highest commercially rafted waterfall – in New Zealand, of course<\/a><\/em>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sledging<\/a><\/strong> (like white water rafting, but on a boogie board. Sort of.)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Have a \u201cpet\u201d kangaroo<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Go on a multi-day backcountry camping trip<\/a> <\/strong>(In Ukraine no less)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meditate with Buddhist Lamas<\/a> and receive their blessing<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hang Gliding<\/strong> (and fixed wing gliding, and I even skydived out of an ultralight powered parachute. I’m bragging, now, aren’t I? I’ll stop.)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Climb a mountain<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Live in an environmentally sustainable way<\/a><\/strong> This experience ultimately inspired my Zero Waste Kit<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Race cars<\/strong> (auto-cross with a 1964 Corvette)<\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ride in a helicopter<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Walk on a volcano<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shoot a travel tv show<\/strong><\/a> (I have a former career in tv, but in recent years I joined a couple of shows on the road)<\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ride The Ghan<\/a> and Indian Pacific<\/a> trains across the Australian Outback <\/strong>(I even wrote a book about it<\/a>)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Travel across Canada by train<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Travel across Europe by train<\/a> <\/strong>(That’s in the book I wrote too)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Travel across Asia by train<\/a> <\/strong>(The book I wrote about my evangelical love of trains? Yep – Asia’s in there too)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Play an instrument<\/strong> (I tackled four)<\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Conquer local delicacies<\/a><\/strong> (even if they’re the smelliest in the world)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Go on safari<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Take a cruise<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Visit Machu Picchu and\/or other ancient ruins in Peru<\/a> and Bolivia<\/strong> (Machu Picchu<\/a>: check! Peru<\/a>: check! Bolivia<\/a>: check!)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Become fluent in another language<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stay and live in a meditation retreat<\/a> or ashram<\/strong> (Update October 2017: I did it again in Peru for a couple of years, and Ecuador for about eight months<\/a>)

Ride the \u201cToy Train\u201d to Darjeeling<\/strong> (Still haven’t done this, but I did ride the Deccan Odyssey, which is the most luxurious train in the world<\/a>, in India)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Climb Mount Kilimanjaro<\/strong> (since the accident<\/a> this item has fallen waaaay down on my list of priorities. It’s hanging on to this list by its fingernails)<\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trek in Patagonia<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Find a friend of mine in Iceland purely through word of mouth<\/strong> (it’s a very small place…how many Canadian gay male nurses live in Iceland? Wait! Don’t tell me \u2013 I want to find out for myself<\/i>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Attend a Burning Man festival<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Explore northern Canada<\/strong> (too bad it’s so cold there<\/i>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Travel across India by train<\/a><\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hack my way into a Bollywood dance scene in India<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Go to circus school<\/strong> (what for? The flying trapeze of course! Also reduced to a pipe dream at this point, but I’m hanging on to the dream)<\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Swim with a whale shark<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

See the northern lights<\/strong> (without freezing to death; feasibility is debatable)<\/i>

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ongoing<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This is a list of things I’ve done to some extent, but want to explore further or deepen:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Give back through volunteering, fundraising, and however I can<\/strong> (I’ve had a few stabs at this (in Thailand<\/a> and Australia<\/a>), but there remains an ongoing desire to help whenever\/wherever I can)<\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fire Spinning<\/strong> (I learned to spin in Australia<\/a> and New Zealand<\/a>, and I still practice \u2013 without fire)<\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Perform in musical theatre<\/strong> (I’ve grown up on stage and done a few shows; it’s very rewarding)<\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Climb more mountains<\/strong> (despite going crazy enroute<\/a>, I have an ongoing pull to the mountains) <\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Act in a Hollywood film<\/strong> (although I’ve technically ticked this item off, I wouldn’t say no to another chance…)<\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sing<\/a> with a jazz band<\/strong> (I had a few teases at this…but I’d like a repertoire)<\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Live as a local in foreign places<\/strong> (a thriving and ongoing desire, and I can say I’ve done it in a few places)<\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n

…and last but certainly not least…<\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Make friends with people all over the world<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n
